We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to support tourism-related businesses and organizations (our stakeholders) build their capacity and success through connection to our organization.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Industry Development (DID) is a key member of the senior leadership team, accountable for strategic oversight to ensure CCT achieves its mission, vision, and strategic goals, and utilizing their expertise in the newest and most effective stakeholder engagement methods to assist them build their tourism readiness and capacity.

Core Competencies

Strategy: The DID collaborates in the development of CCT’s rolling three-year strategy and yearly business plan that supports the strategic direction. The position is accountable for the development (including budgeting) and execution of CCT’s stakeholder learning opportunities.

Leadership: The DID successfully leads and directs the people and activities involved in achieving the stakeholder engagement and equipping goals and objectives of the yearly business plans. This includes, but is not limited to key vendors (Web, B2B content developers, trainers, educators, venues, etc.) and stakeholders.

Communication: The DID must develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships and trust with tourism stakeholders and supporters including municipalities, Chambers/Board of Trades, BIAs and DMO’s in order to build engagement and participation in CCT-led/sponsored opportunities for stakeholders to become tourism-ready and build capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Planning: The DID is responsible for collaborating in the development of the yearly Business Plan and is responsible for the planning and budgeting of stakeholder engagement activities that must take place to successfully support the plan including, but not limited to monthly B2B newsletter, Learning Management System, education modules and workshops, AGM and tourism symposium.

Execution: The DID is responsible for the successful execution of all stakeholder learning & engagement activities that support the annual business plans.

Reporting: The DID is responsible for developing KPI’s for yearly B2B and stakeholder engagement activities and report against them. In addition, the DID must research timely, relevant information that affects the businesses of tourism, and disseminate it in engaging ways to build stakeholder capacity.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of progressive work experience specifically in roles that require leadership, critical and strategic thinking, accountability for execution, relationship building, creativity, decision making, project management and best practice strategies to support performance success, preferably in the tourism sector.
• Very strong understanding of and connections with the tourism sector including layers of support, types of stakeholders, etc.
• Experience developing and delivering impactful training/development programs.
• Proven experience with strategic planning, forecasting and project management.
• Proven strategic leadership skills.
• Proven excellence in conflict management.
• Proven ability to develop stakeholder relationships, trust and engagement.
• Proactive and action oriented.
• Excellent communications skills – written and verbal – including being clear, succinct, and flexible with different audiences.
• Proven active listening skills.
• Proven presentation/facilitation skills.
• Degree in tourism, business or education.
