Update on TIAO's Sustainability Journey + Mark your calendar for August 11!
We got our results!
At TIAO, we launched an initiative in 2018 in partnership with GreenStep Solutions, first to better understand what sustainable tourism could look like in practice, and then to share those learnings across the industry. Our ultimate goal: to help advance sustainable tourism in Ontario.
With our Game ON BC challenge, and more recently the Game ON Quebec, it is a competition with the greatest outcome for us all in Canada – improving the sustainability of our industry in responsibility to environmental, cultural inclusivity and retention for growth. Initially, in TIAO’s own Sustainable Tourism assessment report, we achieved a bronze and have maintained it through the years, but through purposeful and small steady moves, we received our most recent assessment, and we have achieved Gold!

We encourage you if you haven’t already to start your progress in taking the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge. The Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge is a commitment to improve the sustainability performance of your tourism business or destination between now and 2030. The purpose of the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge is to help tourism businesses and destinations measure and improve their sustainability performance. By simplifying the steps and removing the cost barrier through Green Step’s complimentary measurement tool, we can create a common framework and benchmark for the global tourism industry.
By signing on the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, your organization will receive access to tools, templates, and resources as they come available. Click here to learn more.
It’s no surprise that advancing practical sustainability emerged as a top priority for Ontario’s tourism industry during focus groups, surveys, and consultations. We’re proud to continue to support this important work.
